The system for a number of identical carriers includes at least one recorder and storage module. The module includes an internal transporter. An external transporter associated with the outside of the module, transports carriers between the recorder and the module. The recorder includes a recorder module comprising a module frame having outer dimensions which are equal to those of a storage module frame. All modules are arranged successively adjacent to form optional configurations adapted to suit specific requirements. The external transporter cooperates with the recorder and storage modules at their backs and is located inside a cabinet.
