PURPOSE:To eliminate time loss, by performing the inspection of sector arrangement and a sector number in sequence of track sector number. CONSTITUTION:By designating a required interleave format number to a microprocessor MPU1 by an operator at the time of performing the inspection, corresponding interleave arrangement is transferred and stored from a first memory 4 to a second memory 5. Next, the sector number is read out from the second memory 5 in order of address, and simultaneously, a disk driving device 3 is operated by starting up a disk controller 2 for inspection, and a sector equivalent to the sector number out of the sector arrangement of a track is read out. If a fault is generated, it is recognized that a set number is incorrect. Next, the information of the sector from the track is compared with that of the sector number of the memory 4 in order. When an error, etc., is generated, an error defect processing is performed appropriately. By constituting a device in such way, it is possible to eliminate the time loss due to the wasteful rotation of the magnetic disk by performing the inspection in sequence of sector number.
