PURPOSE:To hold an electrolyte uniformly even when the vertical size of a separator is increased so as to lengthen the life of a storage battery, by mixing fibers having a water-repulsive property into a separator. CONSTITUTION:In a separator for storage battery mainly composed of glass fibers and having a liquid holding property, fibers having a water-repulsive property is mixed into the separator. 3% of teflon fibers having a fiber diameter, for instance, 3-5mu is used as fibers having the water-repulsive property for being uniformly mixed. Accordingly, even when the vertical size of the separator is increased, a holding quantity of an electrolyte in the separator hardly changes in the direction of the separator height so that the electrolyte can be held uniformly inside the separator. Thereby, the gas absorbing performance of the negative electrode of an enclosed type lead storage battery does not drop so as to lengthen a storage battery life. |
