PURPOSE:To improve sensitivity at high frequencies in particular by forming a part, which exists in a wearing depth region in practicable use, of thin film magnetic heads constituting a magnetic path of a head into single-layer structure and forming the parts except the single-layer structure into multi-layered structure via insulating layers. CONSTITUTION:An upper magnetic pole 2 and a lower magnetic pole 3 are provided to face each other via a thin film coil 1. The upper magnetic pole 2 and lower magnetic pole 3 are partly constituted to be provided with the multi-layered structure by the insulating layers 6. The parts having no multi- layers have respective the single-layer structure for both the upper and lower magnetic poles and the part 8 contg. at least the region of the wear depth in the practicable use of the head is made into a single layer. Since a magnetic flux flows in a vertical direction near the rear part 9 of the head, the part near the same is also made into the single-layer structure. The thin film head which has the excellent sensitivity particularly at a high frequency and is free from hindrances such as pseudo gaps is thus constituted. |
