PURPOSE:To obtain close coating layer having high detaching strength by applying slurry-state coating material containing the specific mixture on surface of mold composing of carbonic material, drying and forming the mixture layer on the mold surface. CONSTITUTION:The mixture contains at least one kind of powder selected from group composing of Si, Ti, Zr, Hf, Cr, Mo and W, and at least one kind of powder of either B or C, and aggregate and binder. The coating material making to the slurry by uniformly dispersing this mixture in organic solvent, is applied on the mold surface and dried to form the mixture layer on the mold surface. Next, by molten metal heat at the time of pouring the molten metal into the mold, exothermic reaction is generated among components containing the mixture and between the component of the mixture and carbon on the mold surface, to develop refractory, and further by heat of exothermic reaction, the refractory and the aggregate are burnt and the coating layer is formed.
