PURPOSE:To improve warming up characteristic of an exhaust gas purifying catalyst in a cold state by incorporating silicon carbide and/or titania having higher heat conductivity than alumina in a layer coated with the alumina contg. catalyst components into the alumina coated layer formed on the surface of a carrier. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust gas purifying catalyst is produced by forming an alumina-coated layer contg. catalyst components on the surface of carrier formed in a catalyst case, and incorporating silicon carbide and/or titania having higher heat conductivity than alumina contained in said alumina-coated layer. Concretely, the exhaust gas purifying catalyst is produced by depositing catalyst components such as Pt, Pd, etc. on the whole surface of a honeycomb carrier 2 formed in the catalyst case, and forming simultaneously an alumina-coated layer 3 contg. silicon carbide and/or titania having higher heat conductivity than the alumina. |
