LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PURPOSE:To obtain good visibility within a range where an image is visible by disposing a negative type liquid crystal display device as well as an illuminating device behind said device and a mirror before the same and displaying the display image via the mirror. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal display element 11 for which a twisted nematic liquid crystal of a negative type display with a light shielding film including an illuminating means is used is fixed to a base 13 and a mirror 12 is fixed by a base 14. An angle relation is so selected that the display of the element 11 projects the image at the finest contrast when a viewed from a peripheral direction including a direction A. The mirror 12 may be a totally reflecting mirror or electrochromic (EC) mirror. The selective use of luminance levels is easy with the EC mirror. The image to be projected on the mirror can be enlarged when a curved mirror 22 is combined with the liquid crystal display element including an illuminating means.
