<p>PURPOSE:To balance acid fermentation and methane fermentation, and to increase the capacity of the title device by controlling the ratio of the apparent surface area of the carrier packed in the device to the effective capacity of the device to more than a specified value. CONSTITUTION:The waste water to be treated is passed through the fixed bed consisting of the carrier 2 of a porous ceramic, etc., carrying microbes, and anaerobically purified. In this case, the ratio of the apparent surface area of the carrier 2 packed in the device 1 to the effective liq. capacity of the device 1 (carrier surface area/effective liq. capacity) is controlled to >=20cm<2>/m<3>. As a result, acid fermentation and methane fermentation are balanced, and the capacity of the device itself can be increased.</p> |
