PURPOSE:To suitably correct an MTF in both main and sub scanning directions by executing the resolution improving processing of an image signal concerning a direction intersecting orthogonally with an image sensor picture element arranging direction stronger than the same processing concerning the above- mentioned image sensor picture element arranging direction. CONSTITUTION:A filter circuit is composed of line memories 21 and 22 which are composed of the shift register of 4112 bytes, latches 23-31, adders 32-34, multipliers 35-37 and subtracters 38. As the multipliers 35-37, a ROM can be used. In the future, even the use of a digital signal processor (DSP) is considered. Thus, for both main scanning direction and sub-scanning direction, a suitable MTF (modulation transfer function) correction is executed and a suitable resolution can be obtained.
