The plant is of the type comprising a reactor containing a metal bath capable of dissolving carbon, in particular a bath of molten iron, a reactor equipped with means for the injection of carbonaceous material, of gaseous oxygen and of substances for forming a purifying slag. The plant according to the invention is characterised in that the width of the reactor is substantially equal to the diameter of the base of the spreading cone of the jet of reactants, and its length is equal to a number N of these diameters, and in that the said means of injection, also N in number, are arranged linearly side by side along the axis of the reactor so that the bases of the N spreading cones together define a zone of contact with the bath which is as close as possible to the surface of the latter. With a determined volume of metal bath, the invention makes it possible to increase the gas production efficiency of the plant in relation to known devices by permitting an increase in the quantities of oxygen and of coal which are introduced. <IMAGE> |
