NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by formula I [R1 is 1-6C alkyl; R2-R4 are 1-6C alkyl, alkoxy or phenyl; R5 is direct bond valence or 1-5C alkylene; A is -O- or -N(R6)- (R6 is 1-6C alkyl or group shown by formula II)]. EXAMPLE:p-(2-Trimethylsiloxyethyl)-alpha-methylstyrene. USE:A taxomer for anion living polymerization capable of providing an alpha- alkylstyrene derivative protected wit a functional group which is inert during anion living polymerization reaction and is readily eliminable after the polymerization. PREPARATION:For example, an alpha-alkylstyrene derivative shown by formula III containing a corresponding free hydroxyl group is reacted with a substituted silyl group-containing organic compound shown by formula IV or formula V (X is halogen) to give a compound shown by formula I wherein group A is -O-.
