PURPOSE:To prevent slide and tear of thread at the time of braiding and to retain air-tightness and corrosion resistance in case of use in a nuclear power apparatus by previously impregnating carbon fiber thread with paraffinic high molecular wax, and braiding the carbon fiber thread into e string of interlocking braid or braid over braid. CONSTITUTION:A carbon fiber thread is previously impregnated with paraffinic high molecular wax having a carbon number of 16-70, and the carbon fiber thread is braided into a string of interlocking braid or braid over braid by a braiding machine to manufacture a ground packing. At the time of braiding the carbon fiber thread into a string, the above wax performs lubricating action, so that the carbon fiber can be braided favorably without slide and tear. Accordingly, the carbon fiber can be braided tightly to enable braiding of packing improved in airtightness. Further, as the paraffinic high molecular wax will not be composed even if it is exposed to radiant rays, the above packing can be used as a ground packing of nuclear power equipment or apparatus. Furthermore, as the wax has lubricating action, the packing can be used as a ground packing for a sliding shaft. |
