PURPOSE:To make a device into multifunction, by making use of a monochromatic signal outputted from either two kinds of circuits with different processing contents in a full-color recording mode, and switching the selection of two kinds of monochromatic signals extracted from the two circuits corresponding to the operation of a switch in a monochromatic recording mode. CONSTITUTION:A selection control means, when a color mode being designated by the operations of first switching means KC1-KC3, supplies plural fundamental chrominance signals corresponding to a color picture signal and a first monochromatic signal to a picture recording means 43c, and when a monochromatic mode is designated by the first switching means KC1-KC3, the control means impresses a signal corresponding to either the first monochromatic signal or a second monochromatic signal on the picture recording means 43c corresponding to the operation of a second switching means KC4. In such a way, since it is possible to use selectively a mode to record all of the images on an original or the mode to erase a highly saturated image in the monochromatic recording mode, a various kinds of requests of a user can be satisfied.
