Finished electrode structures which are then subjected to a chemical or electrochemical reduction for the purpose of activation can be produced by rolling dry powder mixtures containing a compound of the catalyst metal (for example Ag2O, Cu20 or K2 [PtCl6]) and PTFE as binder, which may optionally be intermediately compacted or granulated, to form sheets and rolling the latter into metal grids. Under these conditions alloy catalysts can also be produced by simultaneously using compounds of various noble metals. The gas-diffusion electrode can be used not only for fuel cells, chloralkali electrolysis cells or atmospheric oxygen cells, but for the catalysis of many chemical reactions in the field of general process engineering. |
