Commercially available mechanical rim brakes for two-wheeled vehicles have at least one of the following disadvantages: poor efficiency, laterally projecting construction, large bending moments occur during the braking operation, suitability only for tyres of small diameter. The new brake is intended not to have these disadvantages. The new brake has two brake arms, each of which is rotatably mounted about its own fulcrum. The bearing journals of the brake arm fastening are attached to the front wheel fork blades or to the rear frame construction. In the new brake, the brake legs form a common part with the lower part of the actuating legs, and the actuating legs project in the vertical direction beyond the height (60) of the wheel to be braked. The actuation can take place, with use of a Bowden cable, according to the side, centre or roller pull principle with different degrees of efficiency. The new rim brake is suitable for equipping two-wheeled vehicles in which great demands are placed on the braking efficiency of the rim brake. <IMAGE>
