A belt has inner and outer rubber compression regions, longitudinal tensile cords and transverse reinforcing staple fibres in at least one rubber region, with the cords embedded within the fibre-containing region. The fibres may be natural or synthetic and are present across the entire belt cross-section in an amount of 5-50 parts per 100 parts rubber. Alternatively, there may be an outermost region free of fibres and of much smaller depth than the remainder, with the outermost region having a hardness of 70-80 deg. on a JIS hardness meter and the rubber in the remainder of the belt having a hardness of 70-90. The fibres are pref. 1-20 mm long and have cut ends. The belt is pref. a raw edge belt and has an outer covering of bias-laid fabric. |
