A cleaning apparatus for use in an installation for the synthesis of chemical compounds, especially dyestuffs, comprises at least one three-way valve device (40) in the product-conveying line (16) between two production appliances (10, 20, 30) of the installation which are connected in series with one another, and a cleaning-agent line (41) which is connected to one of the outlet sides of the three-way valve device (40) and which is connected to at least one of the cleaning-agent inlet elements (14, 24, 34) which are mounted in the production appliances (10, 20, 30) in their upper interior region free of the reaction-component mixture or product mixture. During the CIP cleaning of the said installation, one of the production appliances (10) is fed as a reservoir with liquid cleaning agent which can then selectively, from the reservoir, be on the one hand conveyed further into downstream appliances (20, 30) and on the other hand conveyed, via corresponding branchlines (43, 45, 46) and three-way valve devices (40, 42, 44), to any of the inlet elements (14, 24, 34) for cleaning agent in the appliances (10, 20, 30) and conveyed further, via a return line (39), into an appliance (10) located upstream in the product-flow direction. <IMAGE>
