PURPOSE:To permit the smooth transfer by adjusting the height in the vertical direction of the top edge part of a transfer conveyor according to the direction of transfer, in the transfer conveyor for automatic transport in a factory, etc. CONSTITUTION:In the transfer between a transferring conveyor 2 and an unmanned transport vehicle 22, for example when a transported article P1 is transferred from the conveyor 2 to the transport vehicle 22, the cylinder 4 of the transferring conveyor 2 is extended to allow a collision detecting switch 18 to contact the transport vehicle 22. Then the cylinder 6 is extended to lift up the top edge of a conveyor 7 until an upper limit switch 13 is turned ON. Therefore, the height of the rollers 16-1,... of the conveyor 2 is set slightly higher than that of the rollers 24-1,... of the transport vehicle 22. The roller 16-1 is driven in this state and the load P1 is sent to the transport vehicle 22 side, and then transferred onto the transport vehicle 22 free from collision. In the reverse transfer, the height is set low. With such constitution, smooth transfer is permitted.
