By virtue of an obtuse-angle connection between a planar peripheral facet 9 and the middle part of the cavity 3 for the progressive face, the raw glass 2 and the mould 1 are protected against impacts at the same time. By removing the planar moulded edge 9 by trimming, a disc for ophthalmic glasses is obtained which has an elliptical envelope and which makes possible an easy adaptation, a minimum weight of glass being obtained.
