PURPOSE:To enable excellent loading of sheets, by a method wherein, when it is detected that, during loading of sheets, loaded sheets are removed from a sheet loading means, discharge of the sheets from a sheet discharge part is temporarily prohibited. CONSTITUTION:Sheets discharged from a duplicator body are loaded from a discharge belt 529 onto an assorting tray 515, the tray 515 is lowered according to the number of loaded sheets with the aid of a motor 533, and an uppermost sheet is maintained at a discharge reference position. In which case, when sheets loaded once are erroneously removed during a series of motions, since the sheets can be excellently loaded, a sheet loading detecting sensor 531 is turned OFF. In which case, a loading empty alarm is outputted to stop the motion of a duplicator once. After the tray 515 is returned to its initial position in each mode, in alarm is reset, and after rest, a copying motion is restarted. This constitution prevents the occurrence of a trouble in which a subsequent sheet is loaded on the sheet loading means when the means is in a lower position.
