PURPOSE:To improve safety, by a method wherein a switch, actuated in linkage with the moving motion of a stapled sheet bundle, is provided, and the switch is used both as a safety switch and a motion control switch. CONSTITUTION:A sheet bundle P is placed on a staple tray 520, and after the sheet bundle is stapled by a stapler 511, a lever 521 is rotated and the sheet bundle P is moved and dropped. The lever 521 is rotatable around an axle 522, and is actuated by means of a transmission plate 523 being rotatable around an axle 524. Usually, the motion of the transmission plate is regulated in a direction A, and the actuator of a microswitch 526 is energized. When stapling is completed, a solenoid 525 is energized to rotate the transmission plate 523, the lever 521 is rotated, the sheet bundle P is moved and dropped, and the switch 526 is brought into an OFF-state. The switch 526 is connected to a CPU to decide whether it is in a normal state or not, and when it is motioned at other than a normal motion timing, the motion is detected.
