In the single-channel transmission of voice and data signals, the voice signals are time-compressed in order to obtain a signal gap for transmitting the data signals. This requires a temporary storage of the data signals. To obtain a very short time delay in the temporary storage, the voice signal is sampled by means of one capacitor (C1) each of a first capacitor arrangement (40) in a first charging cycle (ULT1). Once at least some of the capacitors of the capacitor arrangement are charged up, the capacitor voltages are successively sampled in a first sampling cycle (UAT1) which is shorter than the first charging cycle, and supplied to an amplifier (75) with low-pass characteristic, the output (76) of which forms the output of the transmitting end. Due to the faster sampling of the capacitor voltages, a gap ( DELTA T1) is produced within which it is possible to transmit data signals (UD). At the receiving end, the voice signal voltage charges up the capacitors of a second capacitor arrangement in a second charging cycle (ULT2). The capacitors are sampled in a second sampling cycle (UAT2) which is longer than the second charging cycle and are supplied to an output of the circuit arrangement at the receiving end via an amplifier having a low-pass characteristic. The data signals are output at a separate output. <IMAGE>
