POLYVINYL BUTYRAL LAMINATES

The laminate comprises a sheet of plasticised polyvinyl butyral and bonded to a biaxially orientated dimensionally stable polyethylene terephthalate (PRT) film 2-7 units thick and having a haze level below 1.0%. The free surface of the PET is coated with a 1-20 micron layer of an organic silanol compsn. comprises 10-69 wt.% silica, 0.01-4 wt.% azido functional silanol and 30-89 wt.% of an organic silanol R Si(OH)3 where R is mainly methyl but can be up to 40% vinyl or phenyl. The silanol compsn. is applied from a 5-50 wt.% soln. in a solvent comprising 10-90 wt. % water, 10-90 wt.% lower aliphatic alcohol and 0.01- 1.0% nonionic surfactant. The soln. has pH 6.2-6.5
