PURPOSE:To obtain a simplified field discrimination circuit, by setting the detected result of a field only when an odd field and an even field are detected alternately for several successive times as the output of the field discrimination circuit, and inverting the previous output of the field discrimination circuit when it is not. CONSTITUTION:A field estimation part 20 estimates and discriminates whether the field following a vertical synchronizing signal is the odd field or the even field based on a field detecting signal outputted from a field detecting part 10 at every field. A storage part 1(21) stores the plural fields of the output signal (field detecting signal) of the field detecting part 10, and a storage part 2(22) stores the output of the field estimation part 20. A gate circuit 1(23) makes a storage part 2(22) store a signal in which the odd sign or the even sign of the latest detecting signal is inverted in the detected order of the field detecting signal only when the fields alternate with each other according to the field detecting signal and a stored field detecting signal. In such a way, it is possible to obtain a correct field discriminating output.
