For large-diameter containers, for example for large silos (1) or for clarification basins, the invention provides, as a flat-ceiling-forming component of the covering (5), a diaphragm (7) which is formed from metal sheets (8) which are located one beside the other and are connected to one another at their longitudinal edges by means of welding. The diaphragm (7) bears, with its outer edge region (11), on the top container edge (2) and supports, on its upper side, a gravel pack (17) which, due to its weight, causes the diaphragm (7) to sag. This is provided with a discharge (19, 21, 22) in order to channel away rainwater or melted water which has accumulated as a result of the sagging of the diaphragm (7). <IMAGE>
