A haloacetamide compound of the following formula (I) (I) wherein R1 represents a substituted or unsubstituted C6-C14 aryl group or a substituted or unsubstituted C3-C8 heteroaryl group having one or two hetero atoms selected from the group consisting of O, S and N, R2 and R3, independently from each other, represent a hydrogen atom, a C1-C6 alkyl group or a C1-C6 alkoxy group, or R2 and R3, taken together, represent a C2-C16 alkylene group, R4 represents a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C12 alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C6-C14 aryl group, a C2-C12 alkenyl grup or a C2-C12 alkynyl group, and Y represents a halogen atom selected from the group consisting of Cl, Br and I; and its use as herbicide.
