Appts. for sealing a nozzle in a pressure vessel during maintenance and inspection of coolant pumps, steam generators enerators and piping while the vessel and a refuelling canal are filled with water includes a plug for mechanically sealing the nozzle from inside the vessel and including a prim. and a sec. O-ring. A suspended installation tool has a telescopic system in a horizontal plane for carrying the plug for insertion and removal, with the plug attached to the tool by a latch. The plug is activated by a hydraulic system which includes a pump for pressuring a jack to expand the primary O- ring. Arrangment permits rellable remotely-controlled operation.
