PURPOSE:To improve sealing performance by providing an oil seal, the lip of which is a flat surface contacting the outer peripheral surface of a shaft, inclining the flat surface to the outer peripheral surface of the shaft, and bringing the flat surface into surface contact with the outer peripheral surface of the shaft by urging force of a spring. CONSTITUTION:After cutting work for an inclined surface indicated by theta1, working for a flat surface 13 of a lip portion is performed. Accordingly, it is not necessary to perform cutting work for making a point of intersection for lip formation, so that manufacture of the lip can be facilitated. The lower portion of the flat surface 13 is a stepped portion 14, and a spring 9 is disposed on the back of the flat surface 13 and the stepped portion 14 in such a manner that the surface connecting the center of the spring 9 (the direction where the urging force of the spring 9 is applied) passes one edge of the flat surface 13. Accordingly, peak contact pressure is shown between a reciprocating shaft 8 and the flat surface 13 contacting the shaft at the edge portion 15 thereof to improve a sealing effect. |
