摘要 PURPOSE:To permit shortening of the time required for focus detection without degrading the accuracy of the focus detection by executing approximate focus detection in accordance with the data obtd. by binarizing the analog signal in the entire photographing region of an image sensor to 1 bit and executing the detail focus detection in accordance with the data of plural bits relative to the specific region corresponding to the result of said detection. CONSTITUTION:The data of the plural bits are obtd. by a 1st A/D converting means 52 with respect to the entire region of the image sensor 51 and the approximate detection is executed by a 1st computing means 54 in accordance with the data obtd. by binarizing said data to 1 bit. A certain region is specified according to the result of the detection and the detail focus detection is executed by a 2nd computing means 55 in accordance with the data (plural bits) corresponding to the above-mentioned specific region of the 1st A/D converting means 52. The quick focus detection is thereby executed without degrading the accuracy of the focus detection.
