PURPOSE:To automate positioning of thin sheets, by a method wherein the sheets are placed in a container having a peripheral wall part, the inner periphery of the upper surface of which is inclined downward toward its bottom part, and a pulselike air flow is blown against the thin sheets. CONSTITUTION:A saucer-shaped container 2 is formed with a bottom part 3 and a peripheral wall part 4, and the inner periphery of the peripheral wall part 4 is inclined downward toward the bottom part 3 so that, when thin sheets 1 placed in the container 2 are positioned, the sheets are guided. The size of the bottom part 3 is adjusted to a value equal to or slightly higher than that of the thin sheet 1. A plurality of nozzles 5 are situated in the bottom part 3 or in positions thereabove, and a pulselike air flow is injected so strongly enough to allow floating of the thin sheets 1 in the container 2. By proper selection of an injection time, the thin sheets are guided to the inner periphery of the peripheral wall part 4 in a state to float from the bottom part 3, and during completion of injection, the thin sheets are precisely positioned on the bottom part 3.
