PURPOSE:To sharply read picture without increasing the luminous quantity of a light source by arranging plural light sources to the inner side from two prolonged straight lines tying both ends of an image effective diameter of an image forming lens and a read line of a color original. CONSTITUTION:A color original 1 is radiated directly by plural light sources 2-4 to act effectively the light from the light sources 2-4 onto the lighting of the original 1, thereby lighting the color original 1 with sufficient brightness. Since the light sources 2-4 are arranged at the inner side from two prolonged straight lines (e), (d) tying both ends of the image effective diameter of the image forming lens 7 and the read line P of the color original 1, the light radiated from the light sources 2-4 through the color original 1 is formed all onto a line sensor 6 by an image forming lens 7. Thus, the picture on the color original 1 is read with sufficient brightness.
