PURPOSE:To perform the data transmission of a balanced transmission system and an unbalanced transmission system on a common transmission line, by selecting a balanced transmission mode and an unbalanced transmission mode alternatively, and connecting it to the transmission line. CONSTITUTION:In an initial state, the transmission line is set at the balanced transmission mode, and in this state, a main controller MS30 can perform the data transmission between controllers ECU10 and 10' (balanced transmission systems) with which communication are desired. Meanwhile, when the MS30 performs the data transmission with a controller RS20(unbalanced transmission system), the MS30 sends an information signal to each of the ECUs 10 and 10'. When receiving the information signal, the ECUs 10 and 10' turn OFF line switches 16, 17, 16', and 17', and separate from the transmission line. Meanwhile, the MS30, after a prescribed time, turns OFF a line switch 42, and sets the transmission line at the unbalanced transmission mode, then, performs the data transmission with the RS20.
