PURPOSE:To provide a traction fluid which has a very high coefficient of traction and is inexpensive and excellent in viscosity characteristics, which comprises a particular diester compd. and/or a monoester compd. as a base oil compd. CONSTITUTION:A traction fluid comprising a as a base oil compd. at least one member selected from among diester compds. and monoester compds. of formulae I, II, and III (wherein A is an ester bond of formula IV or V; n1 and n2 are each 0-5; R1 is H or 1-8C alkyl; and R2 is a 1-3C alkyl) having a cyclohexyl ring at its terminal and a 1,1,3-trialkylpropylene group in the center of the molecular chain. This traction fluid has a very high coefficient of traction and is inexpensive and excellent in viscosity characteristics. Therefore, when it is used in a power transmission, particularly traction drive, the shear force under a high load can remarkably be increased, which enables the size of the device to be reduced and an economical device to be provided. |
