The subject of the invention is a transportable habitable construction. The construction comprises a frame 1 comprising at least two I-shaped metallic principal girders 2 which are symmetrical with each other in relation to the longitudinal median plane 3 of the said construction and which are separated from each other by a distance d of between 1.5 and 2.5 metres: advantageously the frame and uprights 14, 15, 23 are recovered from decommissioned goods wagons.
