PURPOSE:To obtain the title rubber which is excellent in processability and can give a vulcanizate excellent in resiliency, breaking strength and abrasion resistance, by metalating a conjugated diene polymer with an agent for introducing an alkali metal in an inert organic solvent and performing an addition reaction of the formed metalated polymer with an iso(thio)cyanate compound. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. conjugated diene polymer such as a styrene/butadiene copolymer rubber of a bonded styrene content of 3-50wt.% is metalated with 0.01-1pts.wt. agent for introducing and alkali metal (e.g., butyllithium) and, optionally, 0.05-10 equivalent, per equivalent of the agent, of a tert. alcoholate of, e.g., Na, or K at -20-150 deg.C in an inert organic solvent such as (cyclo) hexane or toluene. 0.05-2wt.% iso(thio)cyanate compound (e.g., diphenylmethane diisocyanate) is added to the formed metalated polymer, and an addition reaction is performed between them at 0-120 deg.C.
