Filter medium falls between two gas-permeable walls during regeneration and is then conveyed upwards through a vertical conveyor pipe. Either a portion of the clean gas or a portion of the scavenging gas used for removing dust from the filter medium is employed for upward conveying of the granulate through the conveyor pipe. This is done by applying suction to the top outlet of the conveyor pipe and entraining the granulate into the bottom inlet of the conveyor pipe by means of the purified or scavenging gas. Regeneration is carried out with a minimal use of sieves, filters and other devices which would reguire periodic cleaning.
