<p>The rivet (50) comprises a tubular rivet body (12) of deformable material, and an elongate stem (14) extending through the bore (56) of the body. The body (12) comprises a cylindrical shank (54) and an enlarged rivet head (52) at one end of the shank. The rivet head may be integral with, or separate from, the shank. The stem (14) includes a plug (28), and a stem-tail (26) connected to the plug by a frangible breakneck (30). The plug (28) has a terminal head (32) for abutting the shank (54), whereby the shank can be axially compressed on pulling the stem-tail and thereby deformed to form a blind head, and a locking groove (40) circumferentially of the plug for receiving material of the rivet head (52) which, during installation of the rivet, will be swaged radially inwardly into the locking groove to lock the plug in the body (12). The locking groove (40) is of helical form, as with a screw thread, and enables the plug (28) to be removed from the body (12) by rotation.</p> |
