<p>Cinnamic acid is produced in high yield when cinnamic aldehyde dissolved in aromatic hydrocarbon solvent is subjected to liquid-phase oxidation with molecular oxygen in a reaction system containing the dissolved cinnamic aldehyde in the presence of cobalt compound catalyst and water. The organic phase containing the product cinnamic acid can be separated from the aqueous phase and cooled to yield crystalline cinnamic acid. When the catalyst is water-soluble it is in solution in the separated aqueous phase which can be recycled for reuse.</p> |
