PURPOSE:To perform the read/write motions of data well and at high speed by accessing a read/write means to a specified alternate area located at the vicinity of a defective track at the time when the read/write means accesses the defective track and doing the specified read/write. CONSTITUTION:A disk read/write device 11 moves a head by the instruction of a controller 13 and executes the detection of a defective track and the read/ write motions of data for the disk. Plural alternate areas are distributed extensively approximately on the disk and when the read/write means 11 accesses a defective track, this read/write means 11 is accessed to the specified alternate area located close to the defective track to do the specified read/write. Even in the case of a defective track existing on the disk, the read/write motion of data can thus be performed well and at high speed.
