PURPOSE:To save a transposition error in typing and to relieve the burden to an operator by providing a substitution part to rearrange English character strings in a buffer in accordance with a conversion rule stored in a storage part. CONSTITUTION:A KANA(Japanese syllabary) conversion part 3 converts an English character to be inputted into a valide KANA, as well as detects an English character string which is invalid as a Roman character expression, and activates the substitution part 4. In the memory part 5, the rearrangement rule having possibility capable of valid KANA conversion is stored as a conversion rule by the invalid English character and the characters before and behind thereof. When the substitution part 4 is activated by the detecting the invalid English character from KANA conversion part, the character string detected as invalid one and the characters before and behind thereof in a buffer 2 are referred and the characters in the buffer are rearranged based on the conversion rule stored in the memory part 5. As a result, even if a transposition error of an English character exists, it can be saved by means of said rearrangement mostly.
