PURPOSE:To impart a uniform electrostatic charge to a one-component high-resistance toner layer and to avert granular blocking of the toner by holding said toner by a toner holding member and mechanically and magnetically disturbing the toner on the upper stream side of a toner layer thickness control member during the time when the toner is conveyed to said control member. CONSTITUTION:The cylindrical toner holding member 3 which turns by holding the toner on the surface in order to rub the magnetic toner is provided on the surface of an image carrier 1 and a magnetic field generating means 8 consisting of a multipolar permanent magnet is housed therein. The control member 6 for forming the magnetic toner to a thinner layer is provided on the surface of the member 3 in proximity thereto and the cylindrical member 7 for agitating the toner which is positioned within the range acted by the magnetic field of the generating means 8 and is in proximity to the member 3 is disposed on the upper stream side thereof. The magnetic fields to be acted on the members 6 and 7 are held at the same polarity at this time. The toner is thus mechanically and forcibly disturbed by the member 7 while the toner is passed in the magnetic field on the upper stream side so that the high-quality latent image is formed on the image carrier 1 even if the toner layer 2 on the member 3 increases its thickness. |
