PURPOSE:To generate a document that reflects the modification form of an original document by extracting and storing the font information of each font of the original at the time of recognizing the font. CONSTITUTION:Upon recognizing the image data of an input original, a document input means 11 stores a font extracted from this image data in an input font storing means 14 and at the same time stores the modification information of the font in a font information storing means 15. An edit means 14 edits a new document based on the font stored in the means 14 and the modification information stored in the means 15. And a document output means 25 outputs the new document in reflecting the modification form of the input original in it. As a result, when there is an emphasized part such as italicized characters in the input original, the part is also expressed in the output document.
