PURPOSE:To permit continuous or discontinuous refresh driving regardless of whether there is a change of display contents or not by providing a means for waiting the input of image data from a host device and starting an operation according to the input. CONSTITUTION:The Busy means for waiting the input of the image data D from the host device is provided and the operation is started according to the input of the data D, by which the continuous refresh driving is permitted regardless of whether there is a change of the display contents or not. Such discontinuous driving as to update the display data only when the change of the display content arises is also possible. Since the refresh driving is possible, a need for updating the specifications of the existing host device is substantially eliminated. Since the discontinuous driving is permitted, the reduction of electric power consumption is permitted as well and further, the host device is required merely to transmit the data only when the need for updating the image plane arises and, therefore, the host's burden on software and hardware is decreased.
