PURPOSE:To generate easily an artificial whirlwind in a free space by a method wherein a circulating stream with a negative pressure zone is formed by blowing air in a circumferential direction and its upper central part is sucked to form a core part with a negative pressure. CONSTITUTION:When air blown by an air blower 1 is ejected slantingly in the circumferential direction from a plurality of ejecting ports 2 of a circular shielding member 1 installed on a floor, the air is formed into a circulating stream with a wind direction C and at the center part a negative pressure zone D is formed. When an air blower 4 for suction installed at a ceiling, etc., is driven to rotate at the same time, a core part B with a negative pressure is formed and air ejected from the ports 2 becomes a rising swirl in being sucked to the part B, that is, forms an artificial whirlwind A which is sucked to the blower 4. Thus, the artificial whirlwind can be generated simply and easily in a free space and the capture and discharge of harmful gas or dust or the ventilation at a theater, etc., can be carried out advantageously.
