PURPOSE:To effectively use the time without wasting it, by displaying the time required for printing or its remaining time. CONSTITUTION:At the time of printing of a document, the set contents of a format are shifted to a data area for executing the printing in an internal memory (MMU) 2, and in accordance with the set contents of the format, and document information such as a character magnification, a character pitch, the number of digits, etc., related to each line, the time required for printing the document of each line is calculated, added to the document information of each line and stored in a data area in the MMU 2. Subsequently, the time required for printing of each line is totaled, the total time required for printing is derived, it is stored in the MMU 2, and also, the time required for the whole printing, and the remaining time are displayed on a display 8 by a numerical value, and a bar graph of percentage, respectively. In such a way, the time required for execution of printing can be easily known, it is unnecessary to wait idly for the end of printing, and the time can be effectively utilized.
