METHOD FOR RECOVERING PLATINUM GROUP ELEMENT FROM PLATINUM GROUP-CONTAINING METAL

PURPOSE:To easily and efficiently recover a platinum group element by putting a platinum group-contg. metal into a vessel having a reaction part and a capturing part and passing gaseous chlorine in the vessel while heating the metal. CONSTITUTION:A sheet 1 of Pt-10%Cu is put into a boat 2 and is housed in a chloridizing vessel 3. The vessel 3 is heated to about 700 deg.C by an electric furnace 4 and the gaseous chlorine is passed in the vessel at about 1l/min through an introducing pipe 5 into the vessel. Coke 7 is packed in the capturing part 6 at this time and is heated to 1,100 deg.C. The coke 7 in the capturing part 6 is taken out after purging with gaseous Ar and this coke 7 is oxidized, then Pt sticking thereto is taken out. Pt of about 99.9% is thus obtd.
