PURPOSE:To make inert gas unnecessary and improve safety, by providing a hopper, employing water, instead of a lock hopper for pressurizing gas to pressurize a vessel by employing water. CONSTITUTION:Steel balls 24, stored in the separate filter of a receiving hopper 5, are dropped into a supply hopper 7 by opening an air-tight valve 6 and filling water. In this case, the steel balls 24 are stored on the separate filter in the supply hopper 7. Water is supplied by a feed water pump 9 into the supply hopper 7 through a water feeding valve 10 while the air-tight valve 6 is closed in the condition of full of water, in which the water overflows into the receiving hopper 5. Further, the supply hopper 7 is pressurized by employing the feed water pump 9 until the hopper 7 is pressurized by water to a pressure same as the gas pressure in the heat exchanger 2. Subsequently, an equalizing valve 11 is opened, then a water blow valve 12 is opened to drop water in the supply hopper 7 into a lower water tank 13. According to this operation, the steel balls 24 may be separated from water by the separating filter. next, a supply valve 14 is opened to drop the steel balls 24 into a heat exchanging unit 3 to effect soot blow, thereafter the steel balls 24 are retrieved into the lower water tank 13. Subsequently, water is supplied to discharge the gas in the heat exchanger.
