PURPOSE:To inform a transmission-enable or-unable state before input of data necessary for card transaction by displaying a message showing a data transmission-unable state on a display means in response to a fact that a detection means received no polling sequence within a prescribed time. CONSTITUTION:It is checked whether a polling sequence is continuously transmitted or not via a data transmission line 4 before data needed for card transaction is supplied from an input means. If the polling sequence is continuously transmitted, a message showing a data transmission-enable state is displayed on a display device 12. While a data transmission-unable state is displayed on the device 12 when no polling sequence is received within a prescribed time. Thus the application of a CAT is ensured without anxiety as long as a message showing a data transmission-enable state is displayed. While a quick inquiry is carried out via a telephone, etc., when the data transmission-unable state is displayed. Then a handwritten slip can be issued.
