PURPOSE:To prevent accidents due to misuse of fuel for a kerosene heater by determining the mixing of foreign fluid such as gasoline or light oil by making use of difference in fluorescent light emitting characteristics between foreign fluids and kerosene when they are irradiated with exciting light. CONSTITUTION:Fuel 2 is supplied to a fluorescent cell 1 through a fuel supply passage 2. The light emitted from an ultraviolet fluorescent lamp 5, which is an exciting light source disposed at one of the cell 1, is radiated to the fuel 3 through a filter 6. A reflector 9 is disposed under the exciting light source to effectively radiate the exciting light to the fuel 3. If the feed fuel 3 is mixed with foreign fluids such as gasoline or light oil, hydrocarbons, etc. of polycyclic aromatic compounds contained in the fuel 3 emits fluorescent light, which is detected by a light receiving element 8 through a filter 7 to determine the mixing of foreign fluids. Therefore, by shutting off the fuel supply or burning, or issuing a warning, accidents due to misuse of fuel for kerosene heaters can be prevented. |
