PURPOSE:To permit exact detection of images and the margin region between the images without impairing the accuracy of a stop position by detecting the projected images of a microfilm which is not provided with blip marks directly by a detecting means positioned apart from a focus position. CONSTITUTION:This device, which is constituted to make macro-projection of the images, etc., of the microfilm irradiated with the light from a light source by an optical path, has the detecting means 18 and a carrier part 4. The detecting means 18, positioned apart from the focus position of the projected image, receives the light from the projection optical path and detects the images and the margin region M between the images. The carrier part 4 controls the driving of the microfilm in accordance with the signal from the detecting means 18 and determines the retrieval position of a desired image. The images and the margin region between the images is thereby exactly detected without impairing the accuracy of the stop position and the reliability of the detection is improved.
